MUMBAI: Around 18,000 spectators attended the annual Christmas music festival 'Prabhu Yeshu Janmotsav' at Girgaum Chowpatty in Mumbai on Sunday evening.
The 57-year-old event resumed after a two-year Covid lockdown gap.
The festival celebrated its theme for 2022 'Jesus Christ a Social Reformer' through songs, skits and messages.
Abraham Mathai, chairman, PYJ and former vice chairman of the minorities commission, said, "The programme was hosted by Miss India International 2012 Rochelle Rao and model-actor Keith Sequiera. Christian music artistes like renowned pianist Stephen Devassy performed while Union minister of state for minority affairs John Barla was the chief guest. On Monday morning, PYJ volunteers along with Wilson College students participated in a beach clean-up to ensure that the site of the event was free of trash".
PYJ is an annual gathering of Mumbai’s churches to celebrate Christmas. It was started in 1965 by Tara Cherian, wife of former governor of Maharashtra P V Cherian.
