BENGALURU: A 73-year-old man was thrashed to death for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl near Hennur on Sunday night.
The deceased is Kuppanna, a construction worker.
On Sunday night, the girl had gone out of the house to dry clothes but failed to come back. Worried, family members started searching for her in the neighbourhood and found her lying unconscious inside the house of Kuppanna. She was reportedly served with a sedative-laced juice by Kuppanna. Enraged over this, the family members bashed him up.
On Monday, they filed a complaint with police against Kuppanna. Hennur police went to Kuppanna's residence to pick him up for questioning, but found him dead.
2 relatives held
DCP (east) Bheemashankar S Guled said Kuppanna and the girl's family knew each other. She had gone near his house to bring her uniform.
"The search party entered Kuppanna's house at 9pm and found her unconscious with her clothes disarrayed. They assaulted the man," said Guled. Police have arrested the girl's two relatives and a neighbour on charges of murder, and efforts are on to arrest others who assaulted him. Kuppanna, from Tamil Nadu, came to the city a few years ago. Police traced his sister in TN and informed her about the death.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
