Ludhiana: The rural police on Sunday evening arrested a man for allegedly setting his wife on fire in Akhara village of Jagraon. Manjit Kaur, wife of
Joginder Singh, died of burns which she sustained in a mysterious fire.
Police officials said Sadar Jagraon police had earlier booked Joginder and his sister in an attempt to murder case, but murder charge was included in the FIR following the death of his wife.
Cops said Manjit Kaur had suffered major injuries after catching fire under mysterious circumstances. They said she was taken to the sub-divisional hospital in Jagraon where doctors referred her to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala in view of her worsening condition.
Police officials said before being shifted to Patiala hospital, police managed to record her statement. They said the victim had alleged that her husband had an illicit relation with another women which led to fights between the couple.
Manjit told police that after a fight on Sunday, her husband poured petrol on her and set her on fire. She alleged Kuldeep Kaur of Kaunke Kalan village in Jagraon and Sarvjit Kaur of Dudike village in Moga district also would incited their brother to kill her. Police said after registering a case into the matter, the accused Joginder Singh was arrested from the area. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest other accused in the case.
