Vijay Merchant Trophy: UP score 207 runs against Mum’s 1st innings
Kanpur: Dismal performance of the batsmen except opener Aditya Shishoudiya pushed UP in a tight corner as they could collect 7 for 207 runs against Mumbai’s first innings score of 492 runs on the second day of Vijay Merchant trophy match played at sector 01 ground Bhilai on Monday.
For UP, Aditya Shshoudiya was a lone fighter who scored the highest 82 runs for his side in 215 balls hammering 12 boundaries and a six. UP is still trailing 285 runs behind Mumbai in the first innings. They have to score 78 more runs to avoid a follow on with three wickets in hand. Since Tuesday is the last day, Mumbai would try to post an outright win against UP.
UP lost opener Sachin Tiwari (4) cheaply. Yashu Pradhan and Aditya Shishoudiya tried to repair the damage but failed to do so as they could add 41 runs in their partnership. They were separated by Dev Damania who claimed Pradhan for 27 runs scored in 26 balls. Bhavya Goyal executed a 45 runs partnership for the third wicket. Bhavya fell prey to Dharsh Murkute after scoring 25 runs.
Thereafter, Aditya engaged in another partnership of 53 runs with Bhavi Sharma who contributed 28 runs. In fact, UP batsmen failed to convert their partnerships to a big one. They performed three 40-odd runs partnerships and those partnerships were separated when it was thought that now the batsmen were settled and would cash the opportunity. But they failed to do so. Some of the batsmen batted like a one-day game and that was the reason that they had lost their wicket. Bhavi Sharma 28 in 34 balls, Yuvraj Pandey 20 in 25 balls, Kartikeya Singh 10 in 14 balls were the batsmen who batted irresponsibly.
For Delhi, Dev Damania and Aryan Chauhan captured two wickets each.
Earlier in the morning, Delhi resumed its first innings from overnight score 353 for 5. Overnight not out batsman Abhigyam Kundu completed his double century and executed one more useful partnership of 71 runs with Dharsh Murkata (74 no). Abhigyan’s prized wicket was scalped by Aditya Kumar Singh when substitute Nikhil Pratap Singh caught him. He had faced 217 balls and struck 35 boundaries and 4 sixes. Murkate scored unbeaten 74 runs plundering 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. For UP, Shivam Ranjan and Aditya Kumar Singh captured 3 and 4 wickets respectively.
