COIMBATORE: The Pollachi west police arrested a 35-year-old man on Sunday for attempting to murder his friend. Police identified the accused as M Ashokrajan of Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district. He had befriended Srinivasan, 32, a native of Palani and a wall painter, while working as a toy seller in Palani five years ago.
On Sunday, Srinivasan contacted Ashokrajan, who was working for a private firm in Pollachi, and requested him to lend him 2,000. Ashokrajan asked him to come to Pollachi to collect the money. Srinivasan reached Pollachi around 10.30am and the duo had a few drinks together.
“Ashokrajan lost his temper when Srinivasan reminded him of the money and made abusive remarks against his wife. When Srinivasan retorted, Ashokrajan stabbed him on his left jaw using a knife,” a police officer said.
Srinivasan was rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital and later to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors sutured the wound.
Based on Srinivasan’s complaint, police registered an attempt to murder case and arrested Ashokrajan in the evening. He was remanded in judicial custody. Ashokrajan is facing 11 assault cases, the officer added.
