Nagpur: Taking cognisance of TOI reports, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on Monday sealed the G+6 floor building with two banquet halls brought into use two months ago without any permissions at Trimurti Nagar. Also, the operator had continued construction despite a stay imposed by CM Ekanth Shinde in the capacity of urban development (UD) minister. More violations have also come to fore in the building now.
TOI had on December 3 reported NIT’s operator M/s Saitaj Celebrations Pvt Ltd had constructed G+6 floor building, including two banquet halls, without building plan sanction on land given by the civic agency for community centre. It also highlighted operator had started to rent out one of the two banquet halls for marriage functions despite lacking fire compliance certificate, occupancy certificate etc.
The construction work had continued and hall remained in operation despite UD minister imposing stay on NIT notice to operator for demolishing unauthorized construction. The stay also meant stop of all construction, as there was to be no change in status quo at the site.
On Monday, NIT chairman Manoj Kumar Suryawanshi directed officials to initiate necessary action for violations. A team from the civic agency rushed to the spot and sealed the banquet hall on first floor. The operator has been using the hall for marriage functions since October.
Citizens had complained of serious inconvenience due to lack of parking in the building. All vehicles coming for the functions used to be parked on both sides of the busy road connecting Trimurti Nagar Square to London/Orange City Street Project.
The building has come up on public utility (PU) land of the layout meant to provide basic amenities to citizens. Neither NIT nor operator ensured citizens got any advantage from the project.
Meanwhile, more violations have come to fore by the operator. One of the invitation cards mentioned the building name as Hotel Eternia. This makes it clear that the operator has constructed building for the purpose of hotel though the land was handed over by NIT for development of community centre.
Despite huge footfall in the building and utilization for commercial purpose, the operator did not have system to ensure zero disposal of sewage water and garbage. No permission had been taken from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to release sewage generated in the building into the civic body’s sewers.
The building also has unauthorized construction. NIT inspected and informed the government about deviations in the building in comparison to proposed building plan. More unauthorized constructions were pointed out by state’s town planning department to the government.
Activist Suraj Lolage has demanded that NIT register offences against the operator and take back possession of the land and bring it into use to benefit citizens of the layout.
