VARANASI: Setting the tone for the forthcoming local bodies elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave a call to act for the victory of the party in the civic elections to ensure "formation of a triple engine government for progressing development projects with the pace of bullet train in the state".
While addressing Kashi intelligentsia at 'Prabuddha Jan Sammelan' organised at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University ground here on Sunday, Yogi said that not just Kashi, which has seen restoration of its pristine glory as a spiritual and cultural centre, but the entire UP and country have witnessed large-scale transformation and development in all field in the last eight years of the leadership of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi."
"This pace of development should not be allowed to stop," said the CM, appealing to the people to ensure BJP's victory in the upcoming municipal elections.
Mentioning how the basic amenities and infrastructure were in a pathetic state before the BJP came to power in UP in 2017, Yogi said, "Till 2016, sewer water used to flow on the roads and there were heaps of garbage on the streets while the condition of the ghats were pathetic in Kashi. Today, change is evident as Kashi has four-lane connectivity from all sides."
He said: “Along with this, it is connected through air services to all major cities of the country. Ghats have been beautified and the city cleaned. Besides, the city is emerging as a major educational and health centre.”
Yogi also highlighted the progress in the health sector and services including the arrival of a cancer institute and other hospitals with advanced facilities.
Expressing gratitude to the PM, the CM said that he introduced, for the first time, inland waterways in Kashi, which is helping export foodgrains, fruits, vegetables and ‘One District One Products’ of UP to foreign countries.
Yogi said the PM connected 10 cities of UP with the Smart City Mission, which is helping develop UP’s cities into safe and smart cities. He said “During
Covid pandemic, an Integrated Command and Control Center was set up, which not only ensured traffic, garbage and Covid management, but also helped monitor activities of anti-social elements through CCTV cameras and take them to task.” It has enabled women and traders to feel safe in state in an excellent environment of security, he said.
Regarding beneficiaries of urban housing schemes, he said that 45 lakh houses have been given to the poor and needy in UP under PM Awas Yojana benefitting around 2.5 crore people, of which, 43,000 houses have been provided in Kashi alone. He said that 2.61 crore toilets have been built for the poor. He added further as India embarks on the journey to realise PM Modi’s goal of making the country a $5 trillion economy, UP must perform as the growth engine of the country.
“Making UP a growth engine, we are taking forward the programmes of urbanisation, investment, employment, skill development and developing education and health centres in a robust manner,” he said.
Talking about employment, the CM said that 10 lakh Agniveers are being recruited across the country under Mission Rozgar, who after retiring will be given jobs by state governments. In UP, he said that five lakh government jobs have been given to the youth while 1.61 crore have got employment through schemes like ODOP and Vishwakarma Shram Samman. Earlier, Yogi distributed certificates and keys to the beneficiaries of various centre and state schemes, including the PM and CM housing schemes. He also distributed tablets to the students and cheques to industries related to MSMEs.
