Chanda erupts in joy as city gets 2 major govt projects
Officials of CIPET celebrate in Chandrapur after PM Modi inaugurated the centre on Sunday
Chandrapur: Celebration erupted at Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology’s Centre for Skilling and Technical Support (CIPET-CSTS) and Indian Council of Medical Research’s Centre for Research Management and Control of Haemoglobinopathies (ICMR-CRMCH) here soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated both the institutes virtually during his visit to Nagpur on Sunday morning.
It was the first instance after inauguration of Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS), when major government projects in Chandrapur have been dedicated to the public at the hands of prime minister.
Both the institutes had made special arrangements for the employees and staffers as well as students for live relay of the inauguration ceremony. “All scientists, doctors and staff were summoned to watch the inaugural event live on a big screen at the auditorium. They cheered as PM Modi virtually inaugurated our centre from Nagpur,” said scientist at ICMR-CRMCH Dr Swapnil Chandekar.
Later, a grand celebration programme was arranged in the evening in the presence of director of ICMR-NIIH, Dr Manisha Madkaikar and former director Dr Roshan Kola. Plantation was also carried out on the premises at the hands of dignitaries to mark the occasion.
Similar arrangements to watch the inauguration programme live were made at CIPET-CSTS. Initially, the dignitaries lit the traditional lamp. Trainee students presented a dance and welcome song. Chants of Vande Mataram erupted as soon as the PM switched the button to formally inaugurate the CIPET-CSTS from Nagpur.
Chairman of National Backward Class Commission and former Union minister of state for home affairs Hansraj Ahir, who was instrumental in bringing both the institutions to Chandrapur, expressed joy over public dedication of both the centres at the hands of the PM. “It is a moment that has brought joy to Chandrapur and I am satisfied to be part of this jubilation. While ICMR-CRMCH will carry out critical research and would provide screening and testing of sickle cell patients and genetic counselling to patients, CIPET-CSTS will prove to be a boon for youths by bringing large scale employment opportunities,” Ahir said.
Director of CIPET, Shishir Sinha said the institute at Chandrapur is the 46th facility of CIPET in the country. “This institute in the past 54 years has produced employable students based on skill development and has made an invaluable contribution in the field of plastics. Over 90% of students who pass the training here are employed in various companies. This institute, run jointly by the state and central governments, brings employment opportunities for Chandrapur and tribal areas around,” he said.
