3 engineering students die in car-truck crash in Karnataka
The students went on a weekend long drive late Saturday night
SHIVAMOGGA: Three final-year engineering students died and their friend suffered injuries when their car collided with a goods truck in Shivamogga Rural police station limits early on Sunday. The quartet was on a night drive from Davanagere to Shivamogga and Savalanga at the time.
The deceased are Karthik, Vivek and Mohan, all 21 and from students of a Davanagere college. The injured, Rudresh Patil, is also an engineering student in Shivamogga. He is being treated at McGann Hospital. The four students decided on a weekend long drive and started late Saturday night from Davanagere. Karthik was driving the car that belonged to Patil. They reportedly had dinner around 3am in Shivamogga before hitting the road again.
At 5.15am, the car collided with a truck at Kallapura village, 25km from Shivamogga city. Passersby alerted police, who rushed to the spot to find three of the four students dead. Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar said goods truck driver Kiran has been booked for the accident.
