THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 35-year-old man reportedly went missing in the Karamana river at Kavadikadavu near Peyad on Sunday evening while taking a bath. Police have identified the missing person as Shibulal of Shibu Cottage at Kadukamoodu near Nediyavila in Uriyacode.
He was part of a six-member gang that went to the river for bathing. According to the police, all of them were under the influence of alcohol.
As the spot where he went missing is dangerous, the scuba diving team of the fire force had to halt the search operations late in the evening.
"This part of the river is very dangerous with pits and rocks. Even the scuba diving team found it very difficult to conduct the search. There were warning boards in the area banning people from entering the waters, but the gang clearly ignored them. Two months ago, a person had died here, and recovering his body was very strenuous as it was trapped between huge rocks," said Suresh K, assistant station officer of the Kattakada fire unit.
He also said that the scuba diving team will resume its search on Monday morning.
According to reports, Suresh, along with four others, were visiting a friend who lives near the spot. They later came to the spot to take a bath after consuming alcohol.
Suresh, who entered the waters, soon fell into a pit and went missing. The police have taken the rest of the gang members into custody for questioning.
