JAIPUR: Exactly a year after chief minister
Ashok Gehlot had inaugurated the two signal-free projects for Pink City, Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is all set to lay open the first signal-free crossing soon.
If everything is in place, the authority would declare Laxmi Mandir Tiraha on Tonk Road as ‘signal free’ within the next three months.
“Although our deadline is of June 2023, the work is almost complete. We are hoping to make this crossing signal free by March 2023,” Vikram Singh, JDA engineer, who’s in-charge of the project informed TOI.
The second signal-free project at B2B Bypass, that Gehlot had inaugurated on December 24, 2021, had been stalled midway owing to land acquisition problems.
At the Laxmi Mandir Tiraha JDA is constructing an underpass that that would connect the Sahakar Marg (just before the Sabji Mandi) with Tonk Road (right in front of the Nehru Bal Udyan). Vehicles, meant to take the Tonk Phuliya from Sahakar Marg would take the underpass to reach Nehru Bal Udyan and then would head straight to the Puliya from the Tiraha.
On the other hand, vehicles that would take right turn from Tonk Road towards Sahakar Marg would head straight and come round through the underpass below Phuliya and then take a left turn towards Sahakar Marg.
“The idea is simple. To make the crossing signal free we should stop any right turns at the crossing,” added Singh. The Laxmi Mandir is one of the eight signals in the city, selected for traffic improvement and beautification - in lines with Jaipur’s heritage and culture - by the chief minister. Gehlot had had announced the list of these crossing in his budget speech for the year 2020-21.
Keeping in terms with the announcement, the civic body has also proposed a facade development in the area along with sculptures of freedom fighters.
“Statues are under constructions and would be placed on corner of the crossing where Sahakar Marg meets with Tonk Road right adjacent to the branch of HDFC Bank,” an official added.
