HYDERABAD: Keeping his promise with students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT)-Basara of providing laptops, IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao and education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy on Saturday distributed nearly 2,200 laptops and 1,500 desktops to & P2 students (Intermediate).
The IT minister was at the institute for its fifth convocation ceremony along with education minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and forest minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy. They presented degrees to graduating students and gold medals to meritorious students.
Addressing the students, KTR enthused them with entrepreneurship spirit, and spoke about the many opportunities in emerging sectors.
"As you all know RGUKT has signed an MoU with T-Hub. With this initiative and many others, Telangana is playing a leading role in facilitating and providing strategic direction to global companies with high-quality human resources," Rao said. He also announced setting up of a science block at a cost of 5 crore.
He requested the education minister to introduce a practice school or apprenticeship model so that students get industrial exposure while pursuing academics. KTR said that in association with T-Hub & T-Works, the institute would be encouraged to offer courses in innovation and entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, aerospace, etc as a minor course or diploma in order to be industry ready.
The minister also assured them with Mission Bhagiratha water.
He also announced conversion of RGUKT campus into solar power, which would make it the first educational institute in the country to source its energy from renewable sources and not from traditional power.
A 10-bed hospital with health experts, including gynaecologists, would be established on campus for the over 4,000 girl students.
