PUNE: The new terminal building of the Shirdi airport would be commissioned in May 2024, about a year after its construction starts in April next year.
An official of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC), which manages the airport, said, "Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired a meeting earlier this month and issued instructions to immediately complete all the processes pertaining to the construction of the airport's new terminal building. Rs350 crore has been approved for the project."
At present, the final designing of the new terminal building is on. MADC would float the tender for its construction in December-end or early next year. "Once the work is awarded, it will take us around 18 months to complete the building and commission it for operations. Actual construction work is expected to start from April next year," another MADC official said.
The Shirdi airport was inaugurated on October 2017. It was among the fastest growing airports of the MADC before the pandemic. The current terminal building can hold 300 passengers at a time. Flyers frequently complained about its alleged below par facilities and lack of space.
Night landing facility
"A fresh proposal has been sent to DGCA regarding the night landing facility. The visit of its officials is awaited," the official said.
