Man held after 3 yrs for killing daughter

Jaipur: The Dholpur police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly killing his 18-year-old daughter over an ‘affair’ and dumping her body near a river in 2019. The accused has been identified as Virogi Jatav and his daughter as Upasana alias Mamta.
The identity of the girl could not be ascertained for a long time. During investigation, it was found that father was disturbed over the affair of the girl and had strangulated her to death and dumped her body with a cotton cloth tied on her neck.
“This case was pending at the Maniyan police station since October 2, 2019, when we had found the dead body of the girl on the bank of the river. Prima facie, it appeared to be suicide, however, the post-mortem report of the girl suggested that she was strangulated to death and marks of struggle were found on her body,” said Deepak Khandelwal, circle officer, Maniyan circle.
Khandelwal added that the case was pending for past three years in Maniyan police station. “After we found that the girl was murdered a case was lodged and investigation stared. However, the problem was that the girl could not be identified,” he said.
Thereafter police through their local intelligence network found that a man in the village claims that his daughter got married but married daughter never visited him. “It was found that since 2019 his married daughter never visited him. This was the first tip we got that made us suspicious towards her father,” he added.
Police through local sources visited places like Gwalior and Agra where the man claimed that his daughter’s in-laws live and did not found anyone.
“So, after three years we were sure that the father of the girl could be behind the murder. He was invited for interrogation when he confessed his crime,” he added.
After his confession the girl was identified as Upasana alias Mamta.
