MYSURU: As part of the ‘Sushasana’ initiative of the state government, the University of Mysore (UoM) live-streamed a syndicate meeting on its YouTube channel, UOMLIVE, on Friday.
The meeting, that went on for nearly three-and-a-half hours, was watched by around 2,000 viewers, including 100 who preferred it live. The meeting was chaired by UoM VC (in charge) H Rajashekar. “We live-streamed the meeting on the YouTube channel,” the VC told STOI. Earlier, the UoM was uploading the syndicate meeting minutes on its website.
On November 29, higher education minister C N Ashwathnarayan announced the live-streaming of all important meetings of the university bodies, including syndicate, academic council etc. One of the issues discussed was revoking the suspension of H Nagaraja, geography professor who was suspended on April 27 over allegations of examination question paper leak. “Nagaraja had written seeking to revoke his suspension order. In the meeting, it was decided to take a legal opinion in this regard,” explained the VC.
A few members favoured revoking suspension while a senior member opposed the move, saying such a move will send a wrong signal to society as the matter is sub-judice.
The meeting also discussed various issues related to students, and the university administration. “One of the decisions taken in the meeting was forming a committee to look into the administrative decisions taken by former VC G Hemantha Kumar just before he demitted the office,” syndicate member E C Ningaraju said.
Many UoM students used live streaming to share their thoughts about the UoM administration. They urged the members to talk about the issues faced by students like early distribution of laptops, inquiry into the allegations of corruption, etc.
