Greater Chennai Corporation to classify areas for ward sabhas this week

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation will this week finalise classification of areas to nominate ward committee members for the upcoming ward committee meeting to be held on January 26 next year.
An area sabha is an urbanised version of grama sabha in which every voter is a member. Chennai has 200 wards and every ward will have ten areas, making it 2,000 areas in total.
Every area can send one representative to the ward committee to carry forward the issues of the area.
The ward committee will escalate the issue to the council.
Residents will be made aware of which areas they belong through announcements and a ward committee member will be nominated by the council by December 20.
