Monsoon below normal: 6 districts in central Tamil Nadu get deficient rain
We can expect moderate rainfall for the next 5 days, but it is difficult to accurately predict the weather systems beyond a week
TRICHY: Rain from the northeast monsoon, which is considered the main rainy season, has been scanty in thre central districts with six of the nine recording deficient rainfall as of December 10. However, authorities said this might not affect the region as the recently concluded southwest monsoon has been good and inflow into the Cauvery from Mettur dam has been persistently copious.
Mayiladuthurai district, which was battered by heavy rain last month, has recorded 12 per cent higher than the normal rainfall, being the only district in the region to do so. "We can expect moderate rainfall for the next 5 days, but it is difficult to accurately predict the weather systems beyond a week," S Balachandran, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai told TOI.
