Chandrapur: The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology’s Centre for Skilling and Technical Support (CIPET-CSTS), which trained students in plastic engineering and technology and placed them in plastic industries while functioning from a rented place for five years, has finally got infrastructure of its own.
The CIPET-CSTS building that has come up in Tadali industrial area, 10km from Chandrapur city, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. The campus was set up on 15 acres land at a cost of Rs51.3 crore, which includes expenses for civil and technical infrastructure and recurring expenditure for three years borne, borne by central and state governments on 50:50 basis.
CIPET is a premier ISO 9001:2015 QMS certified and NABL, ISO/IEC 17020 accredited institution established under the aegis of Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals. It focuses on skill development, technology support, academics, research and development to benefit plastics and allied industries through 36 centres across the country.
CIPET-CSTS was commissioned in Chandrapur in 2016-17 on campus of Industrial Training Institute, Chandrapur, due to efforts taken by the then Union minister of state, Hansraj Ahir. In 2018, a rented place was hired for expansion of activities and increasing training infrastructure.
MIDC handed over land and constructed building for CIPET centre and hostel a year ago. CIPET started training and technical activities from the newly-constructed building.
The centre provides Diploma in Plastics Technology (DPT) and Diploma in Plastics Mould Technology (DPMT). These diploma trainees can be employed in various plastics and allied industries across India. The trainees can also pursue degree course after completing the diploma course.
Placement in-charge in CIPET-CSTS, Chandrapur, Pushkar Deshmukh said a total of 4,280 students have been trained at the centre so far. Out of them, 3,722 (87%) have been placed in different plastic industries like TATA Autocomp System Ltd, Varroc Polymers Pvt Ltd, Jabil Circuit India Pvt Ltd, RC Plasto Pvt Ltd and other top industries.
“The remaining 13% are those who pursued another field or girl students who didn’t want to work after marriage,” he said.
Deshmukh said currently plastic engineering and technology is used in automobile, electronics, electrical material, packaging etc. He claimed that students of Chandrapur and Vidarbha have opportunity to secure a bright future through modern and innovative courses of plastic engineering through CIPET.
