Prayagraj: Buoyed by the success of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in recently concluded
MCD polls in Delhi, the party has decided to adopt ‘Delhi model’ in Prayagraj in a bid to connect with voters ahead of the upcoming urban civic body polls.
The AAP leadership is currently raising two main issues-- poor status of nagar nigam schools and closed nagar nigam hospitals-- while organising street meetings (nukkad sabha) and door-to-door campaign in the city.
AAP leaders have announced to contest all 100 wards of the city as well as mayoral seat.
Party’s district president Sarvesh Yadav told TOI: “Most nagar nigam schools and hospitals are running on papers only. Nagar nigam authorities are even paying rent of many such buildings.”
Yadav claimed party has already set up mohallah and ward committees for the polls.
“Since the state urban development department has issued reservation status for mayoral and corporator posts for Prayagraj, as many as three and 126 aspirants have submitted their applications to contest for the post of mayor and corporators respectively.”
Yadav added that the party leadership is chalking out separate plans and strategy for every ward to ensure its triumph. “We are focusing more to connect with eligible voters, especially youngsters, on the basic issues and are making efforts to strengthen party base at mohallaha and ward levels,” he said.
After holding a special 11-day ‘workers convention’, party has focused on ‘Triple C’ formula for the section of candidates.
According to the ‘Triple C’ formula, aspirants must have a clean image on three points – crime, corruption and character.
He claimed that the party has currently received detailed resume of ticket seekers from 66 of the 100 wards.
Leaders claimed that the aim is to eradicate corruption in nagar nigam, nagar panchayat and nagar palika. They also claimed that people have liked the work of party’s governments in Delhi and Punjab in fields like medical, education, power supply, women security and traffic system and it aims to capitalise on campaigns and anti-corruption issues it has been raising against the state government.
Meanwhile, party workers on Friday celebrated after AAP became the ninth political party of the country to secure national party status.
