Stalin on Saturday said damage caused by cyclone Mandous is minimal in the state due to the precautionary measures carried out by the government. He said personnel from different departments were working tirelessly to restore normal life at the earliest.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the Kasimedu fishing harbour, where several boats were damaged -- and some submerged -- after hitting one another, the chief minister said, "So far, four human fatalities, deaths of 98 cattle and damage to 181 residences had been reported. Other details were being collected, he said.
"As many as 9,130 people of 3,163 families have been given shelter in 204 relief camps," said the chief minister.
He added that compensation would be announced after getting the details of the damaged boats.

The chief minister said he was getting updates from all the district collectors about the impact of the cyclone. "I have been getting inputs from the Chengalpet district collector every 30 minutes since the cyclone was forecast to make landfall near Mamallapuram," he said.
Stalin appreciated the efforts of ministers K N Nehru, P K Sekar Babu, Ma Subramanian, Chennai mayor R Priya, police personnel, corporation workers and fire and rescue personnel.
"As many as 17 IAS officers had been monitoring the cyclone situation in Chennai, and 5,000 workers were carrying out the relief works on Friday night. Currently, 25,000 workers are on the field to speed up the works," said the chief minister.
He said power supply had resumed in 300 out 600 places where power cut had been reported.
The chief minister said that he would visit the districts if it was required.
