Maha: Police constable hangs self in Dhule
A 57-year-old police constable allegedly hanged himself to death at his native village in Dhule district of north Maharashtra, an official said on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday evening at Pohbara in Sakri taluka and the deceased constable was identified as Kaluram Chaitram Ahire, he said. (PTI)

Thane sees seven new Covid-19 cases; active tally 36
Thane district of Maharashtra has reported seven new coronavirus positive cases, which took its overall infection tally to 7,47,365, a health official said on Friday. With the addition of these cases on Thursday, the district's active Covid-19 count stood at 36, he said. The death toll remained unchanged at 11,967 as nobody succumbed to the infection during the day, while the recovery count has reached 7,36,122, he added. (PTI)

NCP criticises use of K’taka Bank for govt transactions
State NCP president Jayant Patil on Thursday described as unfortunate the Shinde-Fadnavis government’s decision to allow Karnataka Bank to release salaries, allowances and pensions of current and retired government staffers amid the border dispute. On Wednesday, the finance department, led by Devendra Fadnavis, added Karnataka Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Bank and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank Ltd to the list of private banks tasked with releasing salaries and pensions of government employees.

‘Will halt cop hiring if no transgender option’
Bombay high court on Thursday warned the Maharashtra government it will halt the entire ongoing statewide recruitment process for police constables if it does not provide an option for transgender candidates to apply.
