UP beat TN by 9 wickets in women’s U-19 cricket
Kanpur: UP started the day with a winning note in Women’s U-19 One-Day Trophy tournament defeating Tamil Nadu by 9 wickets at Deccan Gymkhana cricket ground in Pune on Thursday.
Chasing the target of 67 runs set by Tamil Nadu, the UP girls achieved it losing one wicket in 18.5 overs. Opener Bhumi Singh and Neetu gave a sound start and at one time it appeared that they would complete the formalities and return unbeaten. But UP lost Bhumi Singh’s wicket just 5 runs before the winning target.
Bhumi Singh was held by wicket keeper Sabrina of Kb Vamsi for 30 consisting 5 boundaries in 63 balls. However, Neetu in company of Rama Kushwaha completed the formality. Neetu and Rama returned unbeaten on 29 and 7 runs, respectively.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu, after being invited to bat, collected 66 runs in 40.1 overs. Their seven batsmen could not reach double figures. M Sabrina, MS Aishwarya and Siva Priya scored 13,18 and 12 runs, respectively. Aishwarya and Sabrina executed the best 26 runs partnership for the second wicket. For UP Khushi Tyagi bagged 3 wickets for 4 runs. Bhumi Singh and Tanu Kesarwani both picked 2 wickets each. Garima Yadav scalped one wicket .
