Patna: Jalaj A. Dani, chairman of Addverb Technologies Ltd, on Wednesday called upon young scholars to explore unconventional ways and enjoy their work fully to succeed in life. “You must evolve and reinvent yourself to accomplish your cherished desire and serve the society with utmost dignity,” he said.
Speaking as the chief guest at the ninth convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IITP) here, Dani said students must try to evolve and adapt over time and practise perseverance. He said he was happy to notice that the co-founder of one of the drone technologies is graduating from IITP and present among the degree recipients. He congratulated all the scholars graduating from the institute and wished them a bright future ahead.
As many as 521 scholars of IIT Patna were awarded their degrees at the convocation and many among them received gold and silver medals besides prizes for their extraordinary performance in different fields.
Speaking as the guest of honour at the convocation, G Satheesh Reddy, scientific advisor to the defence minister, asserted that the Prime Minister’s vision of Make In India programme has boosted the Indian manufacturing units, including those related to defence in a big way. All these activities being carried out in the country are all contributing to the growth of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. India has travelled a long distance by producing the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas, indigenously developed gun (long-range in 155mm category) and indigenously-built aircraft carrier Vikrant. Furthermore, our country is fast becoming a hub for drones. Recently, defence equipment worth Rs 13,000 crore have been exported by India, he said.
IITP board of governors’ chairman Anand Deshpande said the current emphasis on “entrepreneurship and innovation” being given at IIT Patna would get boost from the newly-introduced academic degree programmes, including executive M-Tech programmes, integrated dual degree B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering with NITIE, Mumbai, and M-Tech programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in collaboration with Vishleshan Technology Innovation Hub.
He highlighted the fact that apart from the core academic duties, the faculty members and students have been engaged in helping the local, mostly rural, community around Bihta through various outreach programmes like ‘Adhyayan’ and ‘Prayatna’.
He expressed the hope that IITP’s contributions to society will continue to grow in the years to come.
At the outset, IITP director T N Singh welcomed the guests and presented the highlights of the institute’s achievements in different fields during the last one year. The following were awarded medals and prizes at the convocation:
President of India Gold Medal – Pushpesh Kumar, BTech, Computer Science and Engineering; Director's Gold Medal – Kishan Kumar Singh, BTech, Electrical Engineering; Chairman's Gold Medal – Aditya Kumar, MTech;
Aryabhatta Gold Medal – Manmohan Sahu, MSc (math); Kedar Nath Das Memorial Award – Shashwat Mahajan; Dibyendu Mukherjee Prize –Akash Yadav.
IITP registrar Vishwa Ranjan proposed a vote of thanks.
