Ludhiana: After a long wait, Aam Aadmi party leader Tarsem Singh Bhinder took charge as chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) on Wednesday amidst much fanfare. Local bodies minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar and power minister Harbhajan Singh were also present on the occasion. Nijjar, who was before time, had to wait at
LIT office in Feroze Gandhi Market for over one and half hour as Bhinder carried out a road show before reaching the office.
Due to parking of vehicles on the road by AAP workers, there was a traffic jam for over two hours. Even the cops could do nothing. Some of the AAP workers were seen using hooters on their vehicles to clear the road.
When Bhinder reached the chairman office, many party workers were there and many came with new chairman making the venue jampacked. Soon after assuming charge, Bhinder said he would discharge his duty with utmost dedication and commitment, besides a transparent, accountable, and responsive administration would be ensured for the people of Ludhiana. He added that strenuous efforts would be made to facilitate the general public and foremost priority would be accorded to the redressal of their grievances. He said that no stone would be left unturned to provide better infrastructure to the people in Ludhiana.
The LIT chairman categorically said corruption and inefficiency in the deliverance of services to people would not be tolerated. He pointed out that those indulged in corrupt practices would have to face strict action.
The cabinet ministers also expressed confidence that Tarsem Singh Bhinder would deliver effective services to the people and take the development of Ludhiana city to new heights.
Interestingly local MLAs Daljit Singh Grewal, Ashok Parashar Pappi, Madan Lal Bagga, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, Markfed chairman Amandeep Singh Mohi, and Punjab State Cooperative Agricultural Development Bank chairman Suresh Goyal also came late. However, Nijjar took it in a light manner and said, the new chairman must be getting ready for the big day so he got delayed.
