Kanpur: After 35 days of the sensational crime, police finally caught the accused in connection with the murder of Ronil Sarkar, a class XII student of Dr Virendra Swaroop Education Centre Shyam Nagar.
Following a fresh probe wherein a team of cyber experts from Hyderabad were roped in, the police, based on a WhatsApp conversation between the accused and the girl, who used to attend computer classes with Ronil at the institute in Shyam Nagar, managed to zero-in on the accused.
The police identified the accused as Vikas Yadav (23), a resident of C-block Shyam Nagar. During interrogation, it came to fore that accused Vikas Yadav had doubts about his alleged girlfriend's relationship with Ronil. Sometimes when his girlfriend's phone was found busy, he used to doubt that she was talking to Ronil.
The day he had called Ronil to meet him in the forest, he found a photo of Ronil and his girlfriend with lipstick marks. Out of anger he strangled Ronil to death.
In the past Vikas had even proposed to the girl which she turned down and he suspected that Ronil was responsible for all this mess.
When Vikas again asked the girl if she was not befooling him, then she uploaded a picture on her social media DP wherein considering Ronil as her brother, she was tying `rakhi' to him.
Even after this, when Vikas was not convinced, he made a plan to remove Ronil from the way.
According to police, on October 25, Vikas met Ronil in Shyam Nagar and told him that he wanted to talk to him to which Ronil said that he would meet him on October 31 after the school hours.
"After school hours, he left the school and went towards the railway line, where he met Vikas. While walking, they reached deep inside the jungles where Vikas threatened Ronil that he is coming in between him and his girlfriend, and it's not good for him. After this, Vikas came across a photo recovered from Ronil's possession wherein the latter was seen standing with the girl, and the photo also had a lipstick mark. Seeing this, Vikas got angry and started attacking Ronil. Later, Vikas pinned him on the ground and strangled him to death. After killing Ronil, he escaped to his aunt's place in Maharajpur," the police further said.
The police have recovered Ronil's Aadhaar card, his learning driving license, photograph of Ronil and the girl student together and the T-shirt worn by Vikas at the time of the incident.
According to inspector Chakeri police station, Anjan Kumar, Vikas had befriended the girl about two years ago through Instagram.
"After a few days of chatting on social media, both took each other's numbers. Gradually their chatting turned into friendship and then into affair," he said and added, "Vikas is a class XII pass. He took admission in ITI but due to some reasons he left his studies midway. Vikas's father is a shuttering contractor
Ronil, son of Sanjay Sarkar, a resident of Shyam Nagar D-block, was studying in class XII in the Shyam Nagar branch of Dr. Virendra Swaroop School. He went to school on October 31 2022 and had been missing since then.
The next day Ronil's dead body was found lying near the railway track in Chanderi forest. The post-mortem report confirmed murder by strangulation.
Ronil’s parents were satisfied with the police investigations. However, they said that still they could not believe that only one person had carried out the crime. One or two other people could be involved and the police should investigate this aspect too. "I have lost my only son… nobody can compensate for my loss, he now just wants to see Ronil's killer to be hanged," said Sanjay Sarkar, Ronils' father.
