Gujarat Election Result 2022 LIVE Updates: The BJP on Thursday witnessed a record win in the Gujarat Election 2022 by winning a total of 156 seats and over 50% vote share. With this, the party will be forming government for the seventh time in the state. The Congress party put up its worst show ever by gaining 17 seats, while AAP won 5 seats eating out of Congress's vote share. The Gujarat Assembly Election 2022 was fought between the BJP, the Congress and the AAP. Gujarat has been a stronghold of the BJP for 27 years.

Alleging attempts of tampering with EVM, Bharatbhai Veljibhai Solanki, the Congress candidate from Gandhigram Assembly Constituency, tried to commit suicide inside the counting hall by tying a piece of cloth as a noose around his neck.
The Congress candidate is trailing by more than 30,000 votes against his nearest rival and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Malti Kishore Maheswari. He has alleged that while some EVMs were not sealed properly, signatures were missing from others. Imran Khedawala, the sitting Congress MLA from Jamalpur-Khadia seat in Gujarat, on Thursday defeated BJP candidate Bhushan Bhatt by 13658 votes. While Khedawala polled 58235 votes, Bhatt got 44,649 votes.

Gujarat poll results: BJP wins seats that it never won before
In the 2022 Gujarat assembly polls, the BJP not only gained a record win but also grabbed several seats that it had never won before. These seats include Borsad (Anand district), Jhagadia (Bharuch), Vyara (Tapi), Garbada (Dahod), Mahudha (Kheda).

BJP's Mukeshkumar Patel defeated Congress candidate P K Patel in Mahesana assembly constituency by 45794 votes. After 20 rounds of counting of votes, the BJP nominee had polled 98127 votes compared to the 52403 votes secured by the Congress nominee.
Mahesana was the epicentre of Patidar agitation in last assembly polls and former Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel represented the seat in the outgoing Assembly.
So far, BJP has won 147 seats and leading in 9.

Independent candidate and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel Dharmendrasinh Vaghela on Thursday trounced BJP nominee Ashvin Patel by a margin of 14,006 votes to win Gujarat's Vaghodia Assembly seat, where six-term MLA Madhu Shrivastav was also in the fray.
Shrivastav, the sitting MLA from Vaghodia in Vadodara district, was denied poll ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leading him to contest as an Independent.

AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday thanked the people of Gujarat for helping his party breach the BJP's Gujarat "fortress". He further asserted that though the party has not been able to win too many seats, it at least attained the national party status. He also said that he is hopeful that the party will be winning more seats in the next election.
"I am thankful to the people of Gujarat for helping us attain the status of national party. Very few parties enjoy the status and now we are one of them. Ours is only a 10-year-old party," he said.
