CBI starts investigation into cash-for-PIL case
Ranchi: The CBI has started a preliminary inquiry into a case related to seizure of Rs 50 lakh in cash from high court advocate Rajiv Kumar in Kolkata on July 30.
A team of CBI officials from its Delhi office arrived in Ranchi on Tuesday and is learnt to have recorded Kumar’s statement on Wednesday. The CBI took up the investigation after Jharkhand High Court issued an order on November 30 while hearing the case filed by Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agarwal.
Agarwal had filed a petition challenging the Enforcement Directorate’s action to arrest him in connection with the inquiry related to Kumar being arrested by Kolkata police for receiving a bribe from him. Agarwal contended that he was the complainant in the case against Kumar whereas the ED after taking over the case started treating him as an accused.
