Nijjar hints at delay in MC polls
Ludhiana: Despite registering victory in Delhi MC elections on Wednesday, Punjab local bodies minister Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar has hinted that the Aam Aadami Party(AAP) was in no hurry to hold MC elections in the state that was slated to be held next year. Indicating that the government was inclined to delay the local bodies polls, he said there was a need for more development works to be done in the districts.
The local bodies minister, however, clarified that everything would be done in a democratic manner.
Nijjar was here on Wednesday to attend the charge-assuming ceremony of LIT chairman Tarsem Singh Bhinder. On being asked about the ruling party plans to get MC polls done in the state as well as district, he said, “We are not in any hurry for the elections. We did not get enough time for the development works and so many works are still pending.”
The local bodies minister said, “There are so many works to be done so we are planning to delay the elections for at least two months, but we have not finalised any dates. We will get elections done in transparent manner where all parties will get equal rights to contest.”
However regarding issued being faced by the public for getting NOCs for their plots or properties, he said, “In the next six months there will be good governance and people related issues will be resolved. There will be no hassles for people for getting approval of building plans as we are bringing a policy if building plan will not be approved in two three days people will be free to start construction work.”
