Nagpur: Around 100 prisoners and jail guards might have been involved in the alleged racket supplying ‘ganja’ inside Nagpur Central Jail. This come to fore during the ongoing investigation into a racket of contraband trade inside jail was unearthed by Dhantoli crime branch on November 30.
The probe indicates that criminals inside and outside the prison might have been actively involved in the trade. As the police custody ended, the police again produced detained jail guard Parameshwara Khonde in the court on Wednesday, which extended his custody till December 10.
Khonde had purchased a SIM using a fake Aadhaar card. Investigations revealed that he made more than 800 calls to more than 100 people in the last two years. “Based on that, the police are now looking for these 100 people to whom he had made the calls,” said a police source.
So far, the police have arrested Shrikant alias Chinga Mahadevrao Thorat, (35), a resident of Mire Layout, Gopi alias Gopal Purushottam Parale (30), a resident of Raghuji Nagar, Rahul alias Bhairav Pramod Mendhekar (28), a resident of Saibaba Nagar, and two more guards Ajinkya Subhash Rathod (30) and Prashant Dagduji Rathod (55). All five are in police custody till December 8.
Meanwhile, the Dhantoli police are all set to arrest jail inmates Nished Wasnik and his accomplice Vaibhav Tandekar, with the process of getting their production warrants in last stage.
