Cong candidate from Ajmer in 2019 LS polls resigns from party
Jaipur: Congress leader and Bhilwara businessman Riju Jhunjhunwala resigned from the Congress on Wednesday. Riju, the son-in-law of late Congress minister Bina Kak, was the Congress candidate from Ajmer in the last Lok Sabha polls.
He sent in his resignation to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge. He also tagged chief minister Ashok Gehlot, former deputy CM Sachin Pilot and Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra about the resignation on his social media account. More than the resignation, the timing seems significant to send out a signal to the party. With Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan, the resignation is likely to create a stir in the ruling Congress.
Riju in his letter said, “I wish to convey my decision to resign from the membership of the Congress. A wonderful opportunity was given by the party to represent in the Lok Sabha election from Ajmer in 2019. I tried my best to serve the party through various activities but in vain. While I continue with my commitment to serve the people of Rajasthan with full zeal in times to come, I am unable to add any value towards this mission through the party.”
“I will always be grateful to Honorable Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot ji, who has been like a father figure to me and to Sachin Pilot ji for supporting and believing in me,” he said.
He said, “Rajasthan is fortunate to have a leader like him (Pilot). Many thanks to all the people associated with me on this journey- our bond shall continue. I am always available for anything good that I can do for people of Bhilwara and Ajmer through my foundation and am always available for anything good cause regardless of party ideology as long as it helps my people.”
