Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 14 students were injured in a clash between members of Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students’ Federation (AISF) at SN College in Kollam on Wednesday morning.
Police cited political rivalry as the reason behind the attack. Of the injured, three students were admitted to Parippally medical college hospital with serious head injuries. Protesting against the assault, AISF has called for an education bandh in the district on Thursday.
A video of the clash between members of the political outfits had gone viral on social media. In the video, AISF students were seen sitting in the campus when they were approached by a group of SFI students carrying weapons. Suddenly, a person from behind the SFI gang assaulted the AISF students using an iron rod. Later, both the groups clashed with each other. AISF bagged 15 seats in the recently-held elections and this annoyed the SFI students, said an AISF student. CPI MLA PS Supal visited the injured AISF students at the hospital.
Police have registered a case against a few SFI students over the incident and started an investigation.
