KALYAN: The Government Railway police of Kalyan in Maharashtra has arrested six people and detained two minor for committing robbery in running an express train.
The police said the accused are from Aurangabad District and threatened the victim passengers with a knife to take their cash and mobile phones.
The police said the arrested accused are identified as Rohit Jadhav 21, Vilas Landge 26, Kapil Nikam 19, Karan Vahane 23, Rahul Rathod19, Nilesh Chavan 19 and two mino aged 17 years detained. All are from Aurangabad.
According to GRP, all the eight robbers on Tuesday early morning at 4.30 am entered inside Devgiri Express train's bogie number- S-1 for Mumbai. The robbers started targeting passengers one by one on different seats by threatening them with knife and snatched cash and mobile phones.
The GRP officials said that the robbery went for about half and hour, during which some fellow passengers alerted the railway control room.
Mukesh Dhage, senior police inspector of Kalyan GRP said, "Acting on information we formed a team which nabbed the accused from Dadar railway station". The robbed passengers were on their way from Nanded to Mumbai's Dadar to visit Chaityabhumi to pay their tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his death anniversary.
The GRP official said that the they have recovered some stolen cash and knife used by accused in crime. The police said so far 10 passengers have reported about robbery with them while some more whose only few rupees were stolen did not reported about the crime.
