MINNEAPOLIS – The Nordic tour operator and destination specialist, 50 Degrees North, has released their first Climate Action Plan in response to the growing threat of climate change.
In 2021 50 Degrees North became the first Nordic Tour Operator to commit to combating climate change through the signing of the United Nations Glasgow Declaration. A movement founded during the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, 50 Degrees North Nordic, along with 300 other tourism companies, committed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieving a net-zero sector by or at the latest by 2050.
“One of the most important movements within the travel industry to combat climate change, the Glasgow Declaration unites our sector in a shared goal and creates positive actions that all tourism companies can be involved in.” said Tietse Stelma, 50 Degrees North’s Norwegian founder and CEO “We acknowledge the role that travel plays in combating climate change, and are happy to share our first Climate Action Plan is response to this”
The Climate Action Plan outlines the positive changes that the tour operator will make to reduce carbon emissions across their business and tours. This includes communicating the Carbon Footprint for their most popular tours, including their small group and escorted holidays, and in supporting their customers and travel agent partners in making sustainable choices for their upcoming Scandinavian holidays.
