After tubectomy 'trial', Khagaria women still recovering from shock

ALAULI (KHAGARIA): For Dayamani Devi, the pain of a tubectomy surgery without anaesthesia as she felt the blades of a novice slice through her body and wailed, will go away. Not the "pain of children doing nothing".
"I don't want my sons to become labourers," says the 30-year-old, adjusting her sari's pallu as she holds her two-month-old on a cot at her parents' home. Her husband Dheeraj Patel works as a labourer in Haryana, earning around Rs 15,000 a month.
Dayamani is among 24 rural women who underwent tubectomy without anaesthesia at Alauli block in Khagaria district last month, remaining conscious and crying out in pain on the operating table. Most had three to five children already. The incident prompted the district administration to order a probe but it has not made much headway so far.
