17 international scientists to be part of Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav
Panaji: Seventeen scientists of international repute are scheduled to interact with students in Goa on advancements of science and technology at the fourth edition of the Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav, on December 13.
The programme is being organised by the department of science and technology and waste management at the National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, and seven other venues including Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda; Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda; Government College of arts, science and commerce at Quepem and Pernem; Government higher secondary school, Canacona; Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim and BITS Pilani, Zuarinagar.
Organising committee chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said the line-up includes the director general of the Aeronautical Systems, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Tessy Thomas, who will speak on advances in aerospace technologies.
Professor Christopher Brett from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, will speak on ‘The fantastic world of the chemical elements’ while Arindham Ghosh, a professor from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru’s department of physics will shed light on ‘Making technology with atomic layers’.
Dr Ashish Lele, director of the national chemical laboratory, Pune, will speak on Green Hydrogen for India’s green future while Professor B S Janagoudarformer, vice-chancellor at the university of agricultural sciences, Dharwad, will deliver a lecture on milestones in agricultural development and prospects of agricultural education in India. A lecture on plants, people and the planet will be delivered by M K Janarthanam, Goa University’s former senior professor of botany.
A talk on ‘Science: Stone age to gen alpha’ will be delivered by S Chandrashekhar, secretary of the department of science and technology.
V K Singh from IIT Kanpur’s department of chemistry will speak on ‘Organic chemistry and human well being. Sindura Ganapathi, a visiting PSA fellow from the office of the principal scientific advisor to the government of India will talk on ‘Opportunities in science and technology for a career and societal change’.
Anil Bhardwaj, director of the Physical Research Laboratory at Ahmedabad will speak on ‘Indian planetary and space missions while Tapas Kundu, head of transcription and disease laboratory, Bengaluru will speak on ‘Epigenetics, life beyond gene sequence: implications in health and disease’.
