Surrey Cooper Distillery has teamed up with AFC Energy to produce a low-emission craft gin.
Named Copperfield H2 Gin, the special edition expression is produced in a limited initial batch of 500 bottles.
A leading provider of hydrogen power generation technologies, AFC Energy have supplied a H-Power Tower used to distill the Copperfield gin. It produces electricity from hydrogen, resulting in much lower CO2 emissions throughout the distilling process than what is typically used.
Founder of Surrey Cooper Distillery, Dr. Chris Smart commented: “Our gin making process and carefully selected botanical ingredients provide the very best spirit flavour and aroma experiences. Our collaboration with AFC Energy demonstrates a more sustainable manufacturing process. Through the use of low-emission hydrogen power, we have been able to develop a gin which not only tastes excellent, but also has a lower carbon footprint.”
The partnership between the two companies in creating this unique gin is said to showcase the exciting innovation happening across Britain, as well as highlighting how hydrogen could support the decarbonisation of many of the UK’s gin distilleries.
AFC Energy CEO Adam Bond added: “Hydrogen fuel cell technologies can be implemented today across a wide-range of applications as demonstrated by our collaboration with our neighbours at The Surrey Copper Distillery. The Copperfield gin harnesses the ingenuity of two local businesses to demonstrate creative ways in which clean hydrogen can be used to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and support the transition to a zero-carbon future.”
Bottled at 45%, the gin is available to purchase at The Surrey Cooper Distillery’s website, at an RRP of £42 per 70cl.
