Counting of votes is underway in the Gujarat Assembly elections. VIP candidate Hardik Patel is leading from the Viramgam seat as per early counting. The BJP has taken an early lead in 100 seats in Gujarat while the Congress is leading on 11 seats and AAP on 2 as per the latest counting trends.
In Viramgam, one of the key constituencies, BJP's Hardik Patel, who was earlier in Congress, is contesting from the seat. One of the 182 assembly constituencies, Viramgam falls under the Ahmedabad district and has 3,02,734 eligible voters. The constituency has over 1,56,000 male voters and over 1,46,700 female, while four registered voters are of the third gender. Congress candidate Bharwad Lakhabhai Bhikhabhai won this constituency in the 2017 state Assembly elections. Bhikhabhai defeated BJP candidate Dr Tejshriben Dilipkumar Patel by a margin of 6,548. Overall, Congress had a vote share of 41.02 per cent in the previous election.

2017 result
In 2017, Congress' Bharwad Lakhabhai Bhikhabhai won the Viramgam constituency with 76,178 votes. While the runner-up candidate was Dr Tejshriben Dilipkumar Patel from BJP who secured 69,630 votes.
Elections in Gujarat were held in two phases on December 1 and December 5. The results for both phases are scheduled to be declared today, December 8. The counting of votes will begin shortly at 8 am.
7:45 am: Hardik Patel confident of BJP win in Gujarat
Speaking to the media, BJP’s Viramgam candidate Hardik Patel said he was confident that the party will win 135-145 seats. “135-145, we are definitely going to form the Govt. Do you have any doubts?” Patel was quoted as saying.
“Government being formed on the basis of work. No riots/terrorist attacks here in past 20 years. People know BJP met their expectations.They press 'Lotus' as their future will be safe under BJP. It did good governance and strengthened this trust,” he added.
9:25 am: BJP's Hardik Patel (2961 votes) is trailing to AAP's Amarsinh Anadaji Thakor (3130). Congress' Lakhabhai Bhikabhai Bharwad is in third with 998 votes as per the official Election Commission update.
