SI murder: Jammu and Kashmir police file chargesheet
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Investigating Unit (SIU), Awantipora, on Tuesday filed a chargesheet at the NIA court in Srinagar in the case of SI Farooq Ahmad’s murder. SI Ahmad, a resident of Samboora, Awantipora, in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was shot dead on June 18 this year.
Police named two Al-Badr terrorists — Owais Mushtaq Gani from Samboora, and Pampore resident Majid Nazir, who was killed in an encounter in Tujan, Pulwama, on June 21 — in the chargesheet. A challan against two juvenile Al-Badr affiliates also involved in the crime was produced before the court of the Juvenile Justice Board in Pulwama, police said in a statement.
According to the statement, several suspects were called in for questioning from time to time during the investigation. On June 24, Owais confessed to his involvement in the murder while being interrogated. Based on his disclosure, the juvenile accused were detained.
Further probe revealed that Owais and the juvenile duo were in touch with Majid, who provided them with arms and ammunition to carry out attacks on soft targets, police said.
