Have ensured fair is well-organised: Margao civic body
Margao: Against the backdrop of concerns raised over traffic congestion and public nuisance caused by the feast fair which will commence at Margao from Thursday, Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Damodar Shirodkar on Wednesday reassured the public that all precautions will be taken to ensure no one is inconvenienced.
“The council has decided to have a well-organised feast fair this year,” Shirodkar told reporters. “This is perhaps for the first time that the municipality has worked out so many details to put in place an elaborate parking arrangement for the fair.”
Parking lots have been developed and demarcated at five places near the old market area where the fair will be held.
“Two parking lots each in properties owned by the Margao municipality and South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), besides another parking lot nearby, have been demarcated for use by the public visiting the fair. I have inspected the parking lots three times and I am satisfied with the arrangements,” Shirodkar said.
The stalls for the fair will be set up well beyond the footpaths, thus traffic movement is unlikely to be affected, Shirodkar said. “The traffic police has assured me of proper coordination and effective traffic management,” he said.
To ensure that the plan is implemented as desired, Shirodkar said that a 15-member team of MMC will be on the ground to oversee the situation.
