THANE: A man facing several criminal cases was shot by bike-borne assailants on Wednesday night.
Police suspect some rivalry over contract of Matahdi Kamgar behind the incident but are yet to come to a conclusion.
The injured man has been identified as Ganya Kokate. He had recently shifted to Kasheli area in Bhiwandi.
Police said the incident took place when Kokate was going towards his house in Kasheli in his car. Some unidentified people on motorcycle stopped his car and fired two bullets at him and fled from the spot.
Ganya suffered injuries on his chest.
Some passersby informed to local police who took him to Jupiter hospital in Thane for treatment where his condition is said to be critical.
Deputy police commissioner Navnath Dhavale said, "It is suspected that Ganya had rivalry with some people due to some contract issue over Mathadi Kamgars."
