Multiple-choice questions in ’23 UP Board class 10 exams to be increased

Multiple-choice questions in ’23 UP Board class 10 exams to be increased
Prayagraj: Students appearing for UP Board’s 2023 class 10 exams will have an opportunity to score more marks as the Board has decided to increase the number of multiple-choice questions.
This is evident from the model paper released by the UP Board on its website.
“The changes in the pattern of class 10 Board exams conducted by the UP Board follow the recommendations made in the new National Education Policy 2020,” said secretary, UP Board, Divykant Shukla.
In another change, OMR sheets would be used for the first time in the high school exams in 2023.
While answering the question paper, the students of class 10 will be given an OMR sheet along with the common answer book. Preparations have started at the Board level in this regard. The question paper of the written test of 70 marks will be divided into two parts. About 30 % of the question paper, i.e., the first part of 20 marks will be of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and answers will have to be marked on the OMR sheet. The second part (about 70 % or 50 marks) will be of descriptive type questions and will be answered on conventional paper as before.
OMR sheet system will be implemented in the phased manner in the Board —class 10th exam in 2023, class 11th annual home exam in 2024 and class 12 Board exam in 2025.
Answer sheets will be evaluated in two ways. OMR sheets will be scanned and checked by computer and answer books will be evaluated by teachers as before. In terms of the model test paper and the change in pattern in respect to the number of questions asked under MCQ, the number of questions in the question paper has increased this time. For example, earlier in the question paper of class 10 science, 20 questions (11 multiple choice, six short and three long answers) were asked. This time there may be 20 MCQs, eight short answers and three long answers. Earlier, there were 18 questions. Similarly, the number of questions may have increased in other subjects as well.
After the last date of registration getting over on October 10, the Board officials have declared the numbers of students registered for Board Exams-2023. While 31,16,458 students have been registered for class 10, altogether 27,50,871 are for class 12. In the 2021-22 session, a total of 51,92,689 students had registered to appear in the UP Board exams that began on March 24, 2022.
