Lakhs wasted as JLN Marg loses green cover

Jaipur: Drama scripted at the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) office after all plants on the middle of the JLN Marg from Ram Niwas Bagh till Jawahar Circle were removed.
While a section of JDA officials claimed that this was done without any prior information, JDA officially claimed that the decision was pre-planned and was notified by the earlier chief horticulturist of JDA who had got transferred recently.
“A section of officials and media are alleging that these plantations were done during the recent summit by spending lakhs. The fact is that this beautification drive took place five years ago and for right reasons they had been removed by the just left chief horticulturist of JDA,” Kanhaiya Sharma, chief horticulturist of JDA, told TOI.
A section of officials claimed that plan was to remove plants even from Jawahar Circle till Patrika Gate. But, after much pursuance that had been stopped for the time being. “You had spent around Rs 20-25 lakh on this beautification drive. Recently, during the International Business Summit JDA had renovated the stretch again. What was using of spending the money?”
No matter whether these were removed with proper notifications or not JDA has not decided any steps on how the stretch of the road can be beautified once again.
JDA officials said, they have to reinitiate the process from scratch to start beautification of JLN Marg from Ram Niwas Bagh till Jawahar Circle.
“I don’t have an idea on what to do next. I have to take up the issue with the management first and if they allow, we will sort out how to reinitiate the beautification drive on this stretch against,” added Sharma. Till then JLN Marg would continue to look shabby.
