Gang used gum at ATM to con users, 3 arrested
Noida: With the arrest of three men, Noida police on Monday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang that allegedly duped people inside ATM kiosks.
Police said that the gang would use a special adhesive inside the ATM slots so that debit cards would get stuck once inserted. The accused would also paste at ATM kiosks pamphlets with their own phone numbers as “customer care numbers”.
Amit Kumar Maan, SHO of Sector 63 police station, said, “Whenever hassled customers would call those numbers to complain about their cards, the gang members would reassure their targets that the same would be blocked and that they should leave the kiosk. Once the customer left, they would scratch the card out using blades and screwdrivers.”
The accused have been identified as Kuntal (18) and Gaurav Yadav (24), originally from Hapur district, and Rishabh Pandey (22), a native of Balia. The trio lived in a rented house in the Chotpur area near Sector 63 of Noida. Some 41 ATM cards and other equipment, including three mobile phones, have been recovered from their possession.
The accused were arrested from the service road of the FNG Expressway near the Chhijarsi area.
A case has been registered against the three under sections 414 (voluntarily assisting in concealing or disposing of stolen property), 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
