GREATER NOIDA: A doctor at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has been booked after his colleague, a lab technician, alleged that he made objectionable remarks about her at the hospital and sexually harassed her. Police said the incident took place on November 3 and the complaint was filed by the lab technician at the Kasna police station on November 30.
She said in her complaint that on November 3, she reached the hospital and found some paper chits with “obscene language” left in the lab. There were also some comments about her on a notice board.
“I complained about it to the senior officials, after which someone left an apology note at my desk. On checking CCTV footage, I found out that the accused is Dr Harmendra Manocha, who has harassed me in the past as well. If serious action is not taken against him, I can be in grave danger,” she said.
Dr Manocha could not be reached for comment on Monday. Based on the woman’s complaint, police have registered a case under section 354A (sexual harassment by physical contact or advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) of the IPC.
“The complainant’s statement has been recorded and we have collected other evidence, including CCTV footage and the chits,” said Santosh Kumar Shukla, SHO of Kasna police station. GIMS officials said they had started the process to take action against the doctor. “I have written to the state government, apprising of the matter and seeking permission for disciplinary action against the doctor,” said Brigadier Dr Rakesh Gupta (retired), director, GIMS. Hospital officials said the doctor and the technician had an altercation in November, but reached a compromise after intervention by senior officials.
