Analysis performed by Which? compared the prices of a shop consisting of 48 popular groceries at eight of the UK’s biggest supermarkets.

Aldi was the cheapest supermarket, with an average basket price of £77.21.

On average, the same shop at Waitrose cost £104.11, which is £26.90 more expensive.

The consumer advocate is urging supermarkets to offer the assistance that people across the nation sorely need in order to put food on the table while the continuous cost of living problem is there.

Due to the rising price of food, even a simple Christmas supper will cost £5.36 more than it did last year. According to the company's research, a Christmas meal for five people will cost, on average, £30.03, up from £24.67 in 2021, the BBC says.
