Power supply of 3.5k consumers in Bokaro snapped over pending dues
Bokaro: Electricity supply to 3,556 residential and commercial consumers in Chas circle have been disconnected due to outstanding bills.
Department officials claimed that they have lodged FIRs against 261 consumers till November 30 and imposed a cumulative penalty of Rs 51.56 lakh for failing to pay their power bills.
The connections are being disconnected from the homes of the defaulting consumers to expedite Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited’s revenue collection. At present, Ranchi and vast swathes of Jharkhand are facing prolonged power cuts as JBVNL is not getting over 500 MW electricity in peak hours every day for its failure to pay up its dues to the power generators.
Department officials said 1,521 power connections were disconnected in Chas divisional area till November 30 as their cumulative dues surpassed Rs 1.52 crore. Likewise, the connections of 1,223 defaulters were snapped in Tenughat division as their dues surpassed Rs 1.39 crore.
Power connections of 812 households were disconnected in Loyabad divisional area which had a cumulative of pending bill of Rs 73.1 lakh.
D M Sahu, electrical superintendent engineer of Chas, said: “The department is working to realise the outstanding bills. FIRs against the defaulters are also being lodged with the local police stations. All those connections whose arrears are more than Rs 5,000 are being disconnected.”
