Police said that a case has been registered against the female teacher for intentional insult and criminal intimidation. (Representational)Pune City Police have registered a non-cognizable offence against a teacher from a central government-run school in Pune for allegedly hitting a six-year-old student for “not having good handwriting” and threatening to beat him further if he told his family about it.
A case in this regard has been registered at Wanawadi police station based on a complaint by the 35-year-old father of the six-year-old boy studying in Class 1 at the school. The incident took place on October 20. The father approached the police recently after the boy told his family members about what had happened at the school.
According to the complaint filed by the father, the teacher hit the boy with her hand for not having good handwriting and also threatened to beat him up if he told his family members about it.
Senior Inspector Deepak Lagad of Wanawadi police station confirmed that a non-cognizable offence has been registered against the teacher.
The police have invoked Indian Penal Code sections pertaining to intentional insult and criminal intimidation – both non-cognizable provisions — among others against the teacher.
In the case of a non-cognizable offence, the police or investigating agency requires a court’s nod to initiate a probe and make arrests of the persons named in the case, as against a cognizable offence where police can initiate action on their own.
