The political stage is all set for the second phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections today, Monday, December 5. Voting will take place in 93 constituencies across 14 central and northern districts of Gujarat today. As many as 833 candidates from 61 parties are in the fray in the second phase of the Gujarat elections whose fate will be decided by over 2.51 crore electorates. The polling will begin at 8 am and will conclude at 5 pm.
The 93 poll-bound seats in the second phase are spread across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravali, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda and Chhota Udaipur districts.
The Election Commission has established 26,409 polling booths and nearly 36,000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used for the purpose. Around 29,000 presiding officers and over 84,000 polling officers have been deployed in 14 districts to facilitate the polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday evening arrived in Ahmedabad for exercising his franchise in the second and final phase of the Gujarat polls. The prime minister will cast his vote at a polling station set up at a high school in Ranip locality in Ahmedabad city on Monday morning, an official said.
Union Home Minister and BJP MP Amit Shah will cast his vote at a municipal sub-zonal office in Naranpura locality of the city.
Polling for the first phase for 89 constituencies in Saurashtra, Kutch and south Gujarat regions was held on December 1 with an average voter turnout of 63.31 per cent. The counting of votes for all 182 constituencies in Gujarat will be taken up on December 8.

The women's battalion of the CRPF team has been deployed in Ahmedabad, a BJP stronghold, to maintain the law and order situation.
