Ludhiana: An FIR has been registered against scamsters who were attempting to get
GST registration for bogus billing and tax evasion. Till now, FIRs had been registered against persons who after getting GST registrations had been caught red-handed usurping the government revenue.
Acting on the complaint of assistant commissioner of the state GST (ACST) department Dr Sumandeep Kaur, the division number 5 police registered an FIR in the latest case. Dr Kaur during scrutiny of applications was able to detect forged documents used by fraudsters to apply for GST registration. The accused who have been named in the FIR included Jatinder Kumar Dikshit of Bareilly (UP), Mohammad Amjad Ali of Saharsa (Bihar) and Ajay Kumar of Bhajanpura (Delhi)
Randhir Kaur, deputy commissioner state GST (SGST) department, Ludhiana, said, “An FIR has been lodged under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468 of Indian Penal Code against three persons allegedly involved in fraudulent registrations in Ludhiana. Following the directions of Punjab taxation commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav, the state GST department conducted thorough investigation and scrutiny of new registration applications received through online portal and detected several anomalies. Strict action will be taken against any such elements who try to play fraud with state revenue in the future.”
Dr Sumandeep Kaur said, “During scrutiny of registration applications, it was observed that some unscrupulous elements tried to use deceptive means to manipulate the online systems to get GST registration on the basis of fake documents. Such fraudsters engage in illegal activities and cause huge revenue loss to the state exchequer. Three fake rent deeds were created and then used in an attempt to get firms registered. Further a single electricity consumer bill was used as an ownership proof for principal place of business at three different locations in Ludhiana. When physically verified, it was seen that the legitimate electricity consumer was living abroad and had not rented out his property to anyone.”
She said, “Further, the person whose electricity bill was used didn’t have any property on the said locations. Public should beware of such frauds in which his her identity is misused by scamsters to get GST number issued. Since the firms are registered using PAN on GST portal, anyone can confirm if any fake registration has been made against their PAN card.”
