Our doors will always remain open for India: Bangla minister
Silchar: Bangladesh foreign minister AK Abdul Momen stressed the need for regional peace and stability for the development of both India and Bangladesh during a two-day Silchar-Sylhet Festival here that concluded on Saturday.
In a session on trade and commerce, Momen said, “We whole-heartedly welcome all sorts of cooperation and associations with India. Our doors will always remain open for India. Both India and Bangladesh are the fastest growing economies in the world. They should work hand in hand. A symbiotic relation between the countries will be beneficial to both.”
Stating that Bangladesh shares a cordial relation with India, Momen said, “We look forward to regional peace and stability. In a bid to promote trade and commerce, Bangladesh will always welcome India. Export and import business should always be on the rise. Indian importers should look at our products. Our economy has been improving since the devastating wars.”
Reminiscing about his days in Assam, the Bangladesh foreign minister said, “I have huge respect for the people here. Assam occupies a very special place in my heart. India, too, is very special to me. I was in Guwahati in 1971 and I fondly remember those days.”
Momen said despite Myanmar government’s assurances to take back all the Rohingya, none have returned to Myanmar in the last six years. “We have urged the global community to come forward to convince the Myanmar authorities to take back their nationals,” he said.
